There’s something powerful about knowing your path early and then watching it take shape, step by step. For Ayesha Malik, Class of 2015, that path has always led to medicine. Today, as she prepares to complete her residency and step fully into her role as a family medicine physician, her journey reflects both intention and discovery along the way.

At Carrollwood Day School, that journey first began to take root. As Ayesha reflects on her time there, she recognizes how deeply those years shaped her academic foundation while sparking a lasting curiosity about the world around her.

“I loved learning at CDS, specifically history and literature, and felt that the academics were always rigorous and had a global emphasis that reflected the IB curriculum well. I enjoyed all the opportunities CDS had to offer from sports to theatre as well.”

Beyond the classroom, it was the shared experiences that left a lasting impression. She still looks back fondly on moments that brought her class together, from the senior trip to Disney to traditions like Shakespeare Day, each one adding to a sense of connection that extended beyond academics.

After graduating, Ayesha continued her journey at the University of Florida, where she pursued a double major, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology alongside a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. Her time there was defined not only by academic rigor but by meaningful, hands-on experiences. Through internships at Shands Hospital and with a mobile outreach clinic, she began to see firsthand the impact of accessible, compassionate care.

Her next chapter took her to Touro University, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine. Like many medical students, Ayesha entered with a clear vision of her future, initially considering OB-GYN. Over time, however, her perspective began to shift.

“I always wanted to be a physician, and the more I worked and had internships, the more I realized I wanted to do it,” she shared.

That evolving clarity ultimately led her to family medicine, a field that allows her to build long-term relationships with patients while providing comprehensive, continuous care. After four years of medical school, she continued her training through a three-year residency and now serves as a resident physician with the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in partnership with BayCare, focusing on outpatient primary care and women’s health. She is set to graduate at the end of June, marking a meaningful milestone in a journey years in the making.

Her passion for medicine also runs in the family. Her brother, Zeeshan Malik, Class of 2016, is also a medical resident, continuing a shared commitment to the field!

As she prepares to take the next step, Ayesha’s story is a reminder that even when a path begins with certainty, it is the openness to growth along the way that shapes where it ultimately leads.
